Larch Class 2018-2019

Larch

Larch Class have made a great start to Year 2 and are settling really well.  We have discovered very quickly that we are a class that loves stories which has been evident in our English lessons and story time.  We are also a creative bunch with fantastic imaginations which we are keen to share.  We are looking forward to exploring our exciting topics this year and having lots of fun together.

Mrs Woodhead, Mrs Woodstock and Mrs Webb have been enjoying getting to know our new class.  It is lovely to see new friendships forming.
We are really enjoying class stories and have already explored Roald Dahl’s Enormous Crocodile and Francesca Simon’s Horrid Henry.
The children have produced some fantastic art work in the style of aboriginal hands and Paul Klee oil pastel portraits.
We are excited for the year ahead and our learning journey together.

We have had a great start to Year 2, making new friends and getting to know each other.  Larch Class have already shown what a kind, caring and polite class they are be welcoming two new children and helping each other when needed.  Roald Dahl Day has been a real highlight and we were so impressed with the children’s imaginations and ideas for thinking of additional clever tricks that the Enormous Crocodile could play.  Larch Class have shown us what a creative bunch they are by making pictures of themselves and adding interesting information as part of our ‘Who do you think you are’ topic as well as making fantastic crocodile hats.  We are extremely excited about the year ahead and are looking forward to the challenges that Year 2 will bring.

Larch Class 2012-2013

We are Larch class, a year 2 class and we work hard and have fun with Mrs Barwell and Mrs Child.
We are a happy class who love to learn. We think it’s important to care for each other and our favourite thing is singing songs and putting actions to the words.
Our Topic this half term is ‘Toys.’ We loved bringing in our favourite toy to share with the class. We wrote some imaginative stories about our toys coming to life and we are wondering what sorts of adventure our teddies get up to when we are asleep! We also looked carefully at the detail on our toys to draw and paint them.
We are really looking forward to our school trip to the Toy Museum to explore toys from the past.

Larch Class 2011-2012

We are Larch class, a year 2 class and we work hard and have fun with Miss Menzies and Mrs Shirley.  We are a happy and lively class, who thoroughly enjoy learning inside and outside of the classroom.  We have had a busy start to the term learning about ‘Space and the 1960’s’. We have learnt lots of facts about the planets and even wrote a newspaper report about the first man landing on the moon. We learnt playground games from the 1960’s and ‘In and Out the Dusty Bluebells’ was our favourite because we could sing and also weave under each others arms.

Our theme for activity week was ‘Water’, which we fully enjoyed. We made a sea diorama, full of colourful fish and coral and wrote a creative story together to explore what might have happened inside.

May 2012

This term Larch class have been exploring food poems. We loved thinking of words to describe chips and ice-cream. It even made some of our tummies rumble! We wrote super poems illustrating the taste, smell and feel of different foods and drew pictures of our chosen food with pastels, which Miss Menzies has put on display.
Larch class are entering a competition in aid of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. We studied a picture of the queen, looking really carefully at the detail of her crown and jewels. We then sketched some excellent portraits of her, using bright, block colours to reflect Andy Warhol’s style of art. We enjoyed it a lot and are now excited about the forthcoming activity week, where we can learn more about the Diamond Jubilee.
We have all been working really hard this term and are making the most of our final term in year 2!
