Florence Nightingale Day 11/03/2025

Year 2 had a fantastic day learning all about the life of Florence Nightingale on Tuesday. They took part in three exciting sessions throughout the day and each gave them an insight into the period. In the first session children made different crafts including pill boxes that might have been given to the soldiers, a sash for the nurses at the hospital to wear and medals given to the soldiers. They became detectives in the second session and had to identify the owner of a suitcase by looking carefully at the items inside. There were some very unusual looking objects and the children made great suggestions for each one.

Finally, during the afternoon the children visited the hospital in Scutari, and took on the various roles that were involved in running the place. There were gardeners, nurses, cooks, cleaners and workers in the laundry room. We also had some very impressive acting from children who took on the role of the wounded soldier.

Thank you to all the adults who helped run the day and make it such a success.
