Life Skills Day

Life Skills Day - 4th July 2025

At Manor Farm Infant School, we believe that education goes far beyond the classroom – it’s
about preparing our children for life. This week, our pupils took part in a fantastic Life Skills
Day, where they explored a range of practical, hands-on activities designed to build
confidence, independence, and essential everyday know-how.
From the moment the day began, the school was buzzing with excitement and learning.
Children rotated through engaging workshops that covered important life skills, including:
Planting Seeds – Our budding gardeners learned how to plant and care for seeds, gaining a
greater understanding of nature and responsibility.
Crossing the Road Safely – With help from staff and visual aids, children practised the
'Stop, Look, Listen, Think'; technique to stay safe as pedestrians.
Calling 999 in an Emergency – Pupils were taught when and how to dial 999, what to say,
and the importance of staying calm in urgent situations.
Folding Clothes – A fun and useful activity that encouraged independence and neatness –
and gave our little ones something to show off at home!
Team-Building Games – Cooperation, turn-taking, and communication were the focus of
various games and problem-solving challenges throughout the day.
Putting a Friend in the Recovery Position – A simple but vital first aid skill taught through
demonstrations and child-friendly practice.
Making a Sandwich – A delicious way to practise following instructions, making healthy
choices, and taking pride in preparing food for themselves.
Learning Their Address – Pupils practised memorising and writing down their home
address – an important safety skill for young children.
Writing a Letter – Children wrote letters to someone special, learning how to structure a
letter and express their thoughts in writing.
Risk Awareness Activities – Discussions and role-playing scenarios helped pupils recognise
safe vs unsafe situations and how to make sensible choices.
Using money – paying for their lunch with coins.
Life Skills Day was a resounding success, and the children thoroughly enjoyed the
opportunity to learn through doing. We’re incredibly proud of how enthusiastically they
embraced each activity – showing kindness, curiosity, and resilience throughout.
