Florence Nightingale Day 10/03/2026
On Tuesday 10th March Year 2 had a busy and interesting day learning all about the life and work of Florence Nightingale. After arriving at school, dressed appropriately for the period, the children went to the hall to meet ‘Florence.’ The day began with crafts linked to Florence and her work and included making a clay candlestick to use at Scutari Hospital, writing using a pen and ink, making lockets and pill boxes and of course learning to bow and curtsey when addressing an adult. Later in the day the children looked at a huge range of artefacts which were stored in suitcases. Each suitcase belonged to a person from the period and the children had to use all their detective skills to match the case to the correct owner. Finally, during the afternoon the children arrived at the hospital in Scutari where Florence worked. They took on the roles of patients, nurses, gardeners, laundry room workers, cleaners. It was a fantastic day and we all learnt so much about Florence Nightingale.
